What Drawing App Does Jaiden Animations Use

If you want to get started in animation, and are a fan of Jaiden Animations. You're probably wondering how she does what she does. So, what drawing tablet does Jaiden Animation use in order to create her works?

Jaiden herself confirmed that she was using a Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium) in 2015. In the past year, however, she's exchanged that regular drawing tablet with a more powerful monitor tablet. Specifically, the Wacom Cintiq 22HD.

If you want to learn more about these two drawing tablets, and how and why Jaiden Animations uses them, continue reading!

Jaiden Animation's 2015 Tablet – the Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium)

What Drawing Tablet Does Jaiden Animation Use - Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium)

Let's start with what Jaiden Animation has for sure used. It's the Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium.) A fairly standard drawing tablet that's popular with a lot of animation professionals.

Why? Well, it's because you don't necessarily need to use a big monitor tablet in order to create animations! The art is meant to be kept fairly simple after all — in order to make them easier to animate. So, you'll see a lot of animators using something like this.

Especially so with the Wacom Intuos Pro. This was everyone's go-to drawing tablet in the past 5 or so years — which strikes true for Jaiden, who was using hers all the way back in 2015 with programs like Paint Tool Sai, FireAlpaca, and Adobe Flash for all her drawing and animation needs!

How Much Does it Cost?

Obviously, Jaiden used one of the older models of the Wacom Intuos Pro (since she had hers since 2015.) However, it really isn't all that different from the upgraded 2017 version. Which does amount to a couple of hundred dollars depending on the size that you get.

For the "Medium"-sized Wacom Intuos Pro, you're looking at arouns $350 as the market price. Which is on the higher end as far as regular drawing tablets go. But definitely cheaper than some of the monitor-tablets out in the market right now (especially the ones from Wacom itself.)

If you want to see what the current price of the Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium) is, you can check Wacom's own listing from Amazon !

Is it Worth it?

Obviously, as it is a Wacom product, you're going to be paying for top dollars for this. Even if it is monitor-less. The price for the Intuos Pro is on par with some of Huion's monitor tablets (which usually doesn't cost anymore than 400-500$.)

Does that mean it's better? Well, that really depends on you.

What you're getting with Wacom, is the name. This is the brand product that all the professionals use — including Jaiden herself, and their products have been a staple for years! For a while, it was the only brand out there as well. Of course, now we have big-brands like Huion or X-Pen, and even Apple is throwing its die into the board!

However, that doesn't change the fact that everyone knows that Wacom Products work, and that they have worked for years and years.

Jaiden Animation's Current Tablet – the Wacom Cintiq 22HD

As for Jaiden Animation's current drawing tablet, we have the Wacom Cintiq 22HD!

Again, this is another one of those staple Wacom products that almost every professional uses. Of course, that doesn't mean that you cannot get it if you yourself are just a regular hobbyist! Just know, that it is a lot more of an investment than the regular non-screen tablet like the Wacom Intuos Pro from earlier.

Alright, but why the sudden switch? What is the reason that Jaiden switched over from a regular pad drawing tablet to this monster of a tablet?

Why did Jaiden Switch to a Wacom Cintiq?

While I can't say for sure why she switched. I can kind of guess the reason. As a digital artist myself it took me a while to switch from my Wacom Intuos to a bigger and arguably more expensive screen tablet. One reason is the money, of course.

It's perfectly normal to do something like this! Professionals and non-professionals alike often start with the lower-valued product. Because there's nothing wrong with using a non-screen tablet, it's what I'd recommend for everyone that's starting out! Even if it's something more expensive like the Wacom Intuos Pro line.

However, there's no denying the allure of the Wacom Cintiq! It's big, and it's a little closer to home as far as 'on-hand' drawing experience goes. Plus. you're paying not only for the solid build, but also the beautiful High-Definition display screen and the highly sensitive drawing surface!

How Much does the Cintiq 22HD Cost?

As mentioned, this is definitely a lot more of an investment. In fact, you're looking at a $1.7k PLUS investment with the 22HD. That doesn't mean that you cannot get it for cheaper (especially if you get it used or refurbished) but these usually still sell for a thousand above no matter what.

You can get one of these brand new for cheaper as well! For example, at the time of writing this article, Wacom had this posted at around $300 dollars cheaper. Which equals to around 1,399 US Dollars (shipping and handling not included.) This is a sale price, so it might not be this way when you check it out, but it might also be a little more cheaper!

So, if you want to know how much the Cintiq 22HD is going for right now, you can check out Wacom's own listing for it on Amazon !

Wacom Intuos Pro (Medium) vs the Wacom Cintiq 22HD? Which is better for you?

What Drawing Tablet Does Jaiden Animation Use - Wacom Intuos Pro VS. Wacom Cintiq 22HD

I kind of touched on this earlier, but if you want my honest opinion on what you should get and why you should get it. I'm really more inclined to send you towards the Wacom Intuos Pro. Especially, if like Jaiden Animations, you're interested more on the benefits of it as an animation tool — rather than a drawing tablet.

You can check out my earlier post on "What Drawing Tablet is the Right for You?" for a more in-depth break-down of this concept. But the basic gist of it is this… Start with whatever you can afford and try not to think too much on what your favorite YouTuber or artist is using! It's a nice benchmark to standby, but it isn't the only answer.

Jaiden Animations did amazingly for years with her simple Wacom Intuos Pro, even if it is considered 'lesser' than the Cintiq. You can do well too! In my opinion, you should just get whatever tablet you can get, right now. And start drawing! Worry about the rest later.
